Practice, Practice, Practice... Gold and Silver award winners at the County level are invited to compete at the District level; this year in Mecklenburg County.  Score sheets will be sent out shortly so that everyone can begin working on specific areas of recommended improvement.  Again, awesome performances overall!

4-H Fashion Review and Talent Show...

Cleveland and Gaston Counties combined forces this year on April 23rd to kick off the first annual combined county Fashion and Talent Show, with great performances and rave reviews.

4H members from both Gaston and Cleveland County participated.

Talent Show…
Sara S. (first place) - performed Revelation Song… a praise dance, self choreographed
Audrey D. (second place) - performed ‘Kool Dudes’ on the Piano
Kathryn D. (third place) - performed ‘Hear the Cross’ on the Piano

Fashion Show…
All garments shown were hand made by the models showing them.

Cleveland County Senior Division (ages 14-19)
Anna Marie V. (first place) – created a long dress out of complementing blue and black satin

Cleveland County Junior Division (ages 9-13)
Jonie S. – made a matching blouse and paints

Gaston County Cloverbuds (ages 5-8)
Megan J. – made a original denim blend gathered skirt
Savanna P. – showed off her sun shirt with an intricate pattern of x’s and o’s, hearts and little red, black, and white bows

Gaston County Junior Division (ages 9-13)
Tiffany H. (first place) – created a pink pajama pants crawling with green turtles
Audrey D. (second place) – made a pink pajama pants with green and pink flowers
Kathryn D. (third place) – showed a brown pajama pants patterned with blue and pink flowers topped with an elastic waist line

Gaston County Senior Division (ages 14-19)
Rachel I. – created a short straight line dress with slanted pockets, collar and bow

Because of their achievement at the fashion and talent show…

Anna Marie V. and Rachel I. will be invited to represent their respective counties in the State 4-H Fashion Review this summer held in Raleigh, NC.

Sarah S. and Audrey D. will be invited to represent Gaston County at the South West District 4-H Entertains competition in Charlotte.

Gaston County 4-H Pool Party

Come out and mix with other county 4-H clubs.  Members, volunteers, family, prospective 4-Hers, you're all welcome.

Where: Bessemer City Pool
When: Saturday, June 12th, 6:30pm to 8:30pm
What: everyone attending is asked to bring a "pick-up" (e.g. chips, snack, dish, etc.) and a 2L drink to contribute to the event food.

County Presentations

A presentation is a method used to communicate an idea by showing and/or telling. It can be a demonstration or a talk that uses posters and other visual aids. A 4-H Presentation helps you learn to:

• Research a subject
• Organize ideas in a logical order
• Be a teacher and practice public speaking skills

Why are public speaking skills important?

Public speaking skills are ranked number one among the skill sets of professionals. Other guiding factors for developing public speaking skills include:

• Discovering an important component of leadership development
• Increasing self-esteem, self confidence, and ability to accept feedback
• Expanding skills for planning, preparation and performance

4-H Fashion and Talent Show

Who: Gaston and Cleveland County 4-Hers
When: April 22nd Fashion Judging (3-6pm) and Talent Practice
          April 23rd Fashion and Talent Show (7pm)

Here's an opportunity to shine!  Come show off your talent and skill by participating in this years 4-H Fashion and Talent Show.

See your club's adult volunteer leader for the appropriate forms.

Fashion...

Everyone entering a garment in our local fashion review will need to completely fill out the Fashion Review Entry form, and turn in their completed form and garment by 4:30pm on Tuesday, April 20th at the Gaston County Extension Office. Judging and fashion show rehearsal will take place Thursday April 22nd at 3pm. Competitors will be required to call in to Susan Bugg (704-922-2110) to schedule their judging appointment and rehearsal time.


4-H Seniors (age 14-18) who would like to compete for the NC 4-H Fashion Revue must also fill out a NC 4-H Fashion Revue Short form and Participant Data Form. The 4-H senior with the best garment and fashion revue short form record will represent their respective county in the NC 4-H Fashion Revue.

Talent…

Anyone wishing to participate in the talent show must complete a Talent Show Entry form. Acts can be no more than 5 minutes in length. All youth will be responsible for bringing their own props and instruments. We will have microphones and a sound system available that can play music.  Register, by submitting a COMPLETED talent entry form to the Gaston County Cooperative Extension office by 4:30pm on Tuesday, April 20th.

Talent practice time on Thursday, April 22nd can be signed up for by phoning Susan Bugg (704-922-2110). These will be assigned in 30 minute blocks throughout the day.

All 4-H members may participate. Cloverbuds (ages 5-8) may participate but not compete. Two 4-H'er talent acts will be chosen to perform at District Activity Day. An alternate will also be chosen to attend District Activity Day in the event one of the two chosen cannot. Only 4-H members ages 9-18 may be chosen to participate in District Activity Day 4-H Entertains.
